CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team lifts the lid on the 2019 dual season on Friday, Jan. 18, as they take on city-rival Northwestern at 3 p.m. CT. The two teams are meeting in a dual setting for the first time since 2013, inside the Wildcats indoor venue, the Combe Tennis Center.
The Flames were picked to finish first in the
Horizon League Preseason Poll, as voted on by the League's head coaches. UIC received seven first place votes after capturing its second-straight regular season title last year.
UIC welcomes transfers
Karyna Bihel (University of Minnesota),
Georgia Gulin (Long Beach State) and
Lucie Prochazkova (Florida State) to the roster for 2019, as well as true freshman
Nell Arendt, hailing from London, England.
The Flames last saw action in the fall, competing in two invitational tournaments and also grabbing a 7-0 win over the University of Illinois Springfield back on Oct. 12. Newcomers Prochazkova and Bihel joined senior veteran
Georgie Sanders to represent UIC at the ITA Regionals, where Prochazkova and Bihel joined up for a doubles victory over Horizon League-foe Youngstown State.
Following Friday's match, the Flames will head north to face Wisconsin on Friday, Jan. 25. While in Badger territory, UIC will also meet up with Colorado State for a dual on Saturday, Jan. 26.
