CHICAGO -- UIC returns home on Thursday, Jan. 24, when it will open the season's longest homestand, a four-game stretch at Credit Union 1 Arena, with a visit from the Detroit Mercy Titans.
The Flames (9-11, 3-4 Horizon League) have been tough to top at home this season. Head coach
Steve McClain's squad is 8-2 overall at home and 2-1 against Horizon League foes. UIC is averaging 77.7 points per game at Credit Union 1 Arena and outscoring the opposition by an average of 9.3 points per contest. The Flames are shooting close to 49 percent from the field at home this season and nearly 39 percent from beyond the 3-point line. In the last game at home, UIC toppled Cleveland State, 73-56, and matched a program record with 17 3-pointers made, while setting a new high for attempts with 38.
The Flames possess one of the League's most balanced attacks with three players averaging at least 15 points per game.
Tarkus Ferguson and
Marcus Ottey lead the way with 15.9 ppg, while
Godwin Boahen is less than a point behind at 15.0. Ferguson scored his 1000
th career point in UIC's last game at Green Bay on Jan. 19, and Boahen posted a career-high 25 points against the Phoenix. Both Ferguson (7
th) and Boahen (24
th) rank in the top 25 nationally in 3-point field goals made with 71 and 61, respectively.
Also among the NCAA leaders in 3-point field goals is Detroit Mercy (8-11, 5-2 Horizon League) freshman
Antoine Davis. The son of Titans head coach
Mike Davis, he leads the country in 3-point field goals per game (4.79), 3-pointers (91) and 3-point attempts (222). Davis has been named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week six times and he is on pace to challenge former UIC standout
Dikembe Dixson's conference record for most points by a freshman (594).
