Green Bay Defense Proves Too Tough for Flames

UIC falls 62-32 to top-ranked Phoenix

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The UIC women's basketball team (3-16, 1-7 HL) took on defending Horizon League Champion Green Bay (12-6, 7-1 HL) on Thursday evening and were dealt a 62-32 loss. Green Bay's nationally ranked defense was on display, allowing just 10 UIC field goals and forcing 25 turnovers. The Phoenix also swiped the ball 20 times, the most by any UIC opponent this season.

First Half Highlights

Thompson came through from downtown again, sinking back-to-back threes to end UIC's nearly seven-minute drought, 27-13.
  • Jones put in a jumper to give the Flames eight straight, but Green Bay put the streak to end on its next possession, 29-15. A Phoenix three in the final seconds of the first half would put them ahead 35-16 at the break.
Second Half Highlights
  • Green Bay took the first four points of the second half before Byrd drew a foul and made both free throws, 39-18.
  • Green Bay scored another four before a faulty pass by the Phoenix was grabbed by Jasmine Gaines and fed up to Kienya Jones in the paint, 43-20. Green Bay ended the third frame on a 7-0 run to head into the final 10 minutes with a 50-20 lead.
