UIC finishes first half of Horizon League play with 5-3 record

CHICAGO – The UIC volleyball team (16-6, 5-3 HL) finished out the first half of Horizon League play on a high note, defeating IUPUI (6-15, 2-6 HL) by a score of 3-1 (18-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-18) Saturday afternoon inside the Flames Athletic Center. The Flames bounced back after dropping the first set, soundly defeating the Jags in the next three sets to take home their fourth-straight win.

  • The Jags came within five after three-straight, 18-13, but that would be as close as they could get.

  • UIC never trailed from that point, eventually leading by 10, 24-14.
  • The Jags chipped in two more off a successful attack and a UIC error, but an IUPUI serve went long to end the set with another win for UIC, 25-16.
Set Four
  • The Flames got another early lead, 15-10, but a trio of errors by UIC allowed the Jags to come within a pair, 15-13.
  • The Flames used a timeout, and returned to the court taking the next three tallies, thanks to an Alexandria Hicks kill and a pair of IUPUI miscues, 18-13.
  • The Jags put down a kill, but UIC took the next three off terminations from Brookah Palmer and Paola Santiago, as well as a block from Palmer and Michelle Glover, 21-14.
  • IUPUI got a couple of late points from its offense, but its final attack was out of bounds, handing the Flames a 25-18 win in set four.
