UIC splits first League road weekend

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The UIC volleyball team (12-6, 1-3 HL) wrapped up its first Horizon League road trip on Saturday with a 3-0 loss to Oakland (8-8, 1-3 HL). Oakland's offense hit .361 (45k-6e-108a) in the match, a season-high for UIC opponents.

Match Highlights
Set One
  • UIC got an early 12-9 advantage, but eight-straight points switched the lead into Oakland's favor, 17-12.
  • Kills from Paola Santiago and Clara Lamb put down kills to give UIC a pair, but two kills for the Golden Grizzlies and a pair of UIC errors grew Oakland's lead, 21-14.
  • The Flames chipped in four late points off an Oakland service error, kills from Brookah Palmer and Michelle Glover and a Marija Borcic Service ace, but a ball handling error by UIC would finish the set with a win for the Golden Grizzlies, 25-20.
Set Two
  • UIC was left trying to play catch-up in set two, trailing Oakland by just a point or two until a 5-1 run for the Golden Grizzlies created some distance, 22-17.
  • Following a UIC timeout, a block and a kill added to Oakland's lead and put it at match point, 24-17.
  • Alexandria Hicks recorded a kill for the Flames, but the Golden Grizzlies ended the set on the next serve with a kill, 25-18.
Set Three
  • Tied at 13, the Golden Grizzlies went off on an 8-2 run to take a six-point lead, 21-15.
  • UIC took three of the next four thanks to kills from Glover and a block from Clara Lamb and Tatyana Ndekwe, 22-18.
  • Kiera James was able to grab two more points for the Flames, but the Golden Grizzlies would finish the set with a 25-20 win.

  • Alexandria Hicks led UIC's offensive efforts, tallying nine kills. Michelle Glover ended the match with eight terminations, while Paola Santiago terminated seven.
  • Manuela Conte paced the defense with 14 digs. Santiago followed with seven, while Lauren Musante dug out six.
  • Marija Borcic dished out 25 assists for the offense, while Musante assisted on 12.
  • Oakland held a slight advantage in kills as a squad, 45-43, while the Flames had the advantage in digs (48-41), as well as blocks (11.5-4.0).
