Flames Fall to Big-12 Foe Kansas

UIC goes down 91-50

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The UIC women's basketball team (0-2) fell to Big 12 foe Kansas (2-0) on Sunday afternoon, 91-50. The Jayhawks put away 27 points in the first quarter and tacked on another 33 in the third behind 41.6 percent shooting, while keeping the Flames to just 27.8 percent from the field.

First Half Highlights
  • Kansas got on the board with back-to-back threes to start, but Shelby Case put away a three for the Flames to cut the lead in half, 6-3.
  • The Jayhawks took seven of the next nine for a 13-5 advantage at the media timeout.
  • Jada Nneji converted a three-point play to put the Flames within five, 15-10.
  • Kansas ended the first quarter on a 7-0 run, giving it a 27-14 advantage.
  • The Jayhawks continued their streak in the second quarter, taking nine more unanswered points and keeping the Flames scoreless through the quarter's first three minutes and 40 seconds.
  • UIC retaliated, keeping the Jayhawks without a basket for the next 4:46, as Tiana Jackson, Kimeira Burks and Nneji combined for 10 points, 36-24.
  • Kansas ended its drought with a three, but a layup from Tylah Lampley would end the first half, 39-26.
Second Half Highlights
  • A 14-0 streak for the Jayhawks would start the second half, extending their lead, 53-26.
  • Jealissa Presswood got her first bucket as a Flame, a three-pointer, giving the Flames their first field goal in the second half, 54-30.
  • Burks cashed in a perfect trip at the free-throw line and later laid one up, but the Jayhawks picked up the next twelve, 70-34. Kansas finished the third quarter with 33 points and a 72-37 lead.
  • The Jayhawks outscored the Flames 19-13 in the fourth quarter to defeat the Flames 91-50.

  • Tylah Lampley led UIC with 10 points, while also contributing six rebounds.
  • Kimeira Burks finished with nine points and six rebounds, followed by Tiana Jackson with Eight points, a team-high four assists and two rebounds.
  • Jada Nneji led the team on the boards with seven rebounds. The junior also scored five points and put up a pair of blocks.
  • The Flames turned the ball over 20 times, resulting in 26 points for the Jayhawks. Kansas was also stronger in the paint, 46-22 and off the fast break, 30-8. The Jayhawk bench put up 32 points to UIC's 21.
  • Kansas outrebounded the Flames 54-49. It also handed out more assists, 21-8.
  • UIC finished shooting 27.8 percent overall, 26.7 percent from beyond the arc and 46.2 percent from the free-throw line.
