Flames Drop In-State Battle with Bradley

Michael Diggins records his first career double-double in the 65-56 defeat Saturday

PEORIA, Ill. -- Michael Diggins recorded his first career double-double Saturday (Nov. 16) evening as the UIC men's basketball program dropped a 65-56 decision to in-state foe Bradley.

Diggins scored a team-high 13 points and brought in a career-best 11 rebounds, including nine in the first half, to pace UIC. Tarkus Ferguson added 10 points in his season debut for the Flames.

The Flames led Bradley by a 33-25 margin at halftime, but a 20-3 Braves run to open the second half proved to be the difference maker in the game.

UIC returns to action on Thursday, Nov. 21, playing host to Robert Morris inside Credit Union 1 Arena. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN3.

First Half Notes
  • It's Raining Threes: UIC connected on seven three-point field goals in the opening 20 minutes, one shy of the team's game-high this season of eight. All seven triples were made by seven different players. The Flames would go on to set a season-high with 11 made triples.
  • Cleaning the Glass: Michael Diggins was all over the boards in the first half, hauling in nine rebounds. The nine boards set a new career-high, which had previously been seven. Diggins would go on to add two more boards in the second half to extend his career-high to 11 rebounds. UIC outrebounded Bradley, 23-15, in the half.
  • Lockdown D: As a team, UIC held Bradley to just 28.6% (8-28) shooting in the opening half. Through the first nine minutes of the opening half, the Flames held the Braves to 2-12 shooting from the field.

Second Half Notes
  • Braves Hot Start: Bradley erased its halftime deficit and took the lead for good with a 20-3 run to open the second half. A Brian Taylor triple were UIC's only points over the opening 11:25 of the half.
  • Double Trouble: Diggins completed his first-ever double-double with eight points and two rebounds in the final 20 minutes. It is UIC's first double-double this season.
  • Freebies: Bradley scored 19 of its 65 points at the free throw line, going 19-of-25 from the charity stripe for the game. As a team, UIC was only 3-of-5, with all three made free throws occurring in the second half.
