DAYTON, Ohio – The UIC volleyball Team (20-11, 9-7 HL) saw the 2019 season come to a close on Friday night, falling 3-0 (19-25, 16-25, 18-25) in its quarterfinal match against fourth-seeded Northern Kentucky (17-12, 9-7 HL). The Flames wrap 2019 with a 20-11 record overall, completing their first 20-win season since 2002.
Match Highlights
Set One
- The Norse offense got off to an efficient start to lead the Flames, 17-11.
- UIC utilized a 5-2 run to cut the deficit to three, 19-16. Kiera James and Brookah Palmer contributed kills, and James also paired up with Michelle Glover for a block in the streak.
- Northern Kentucky took the next five unanswered to reach set point, 24-16. The Flames were able to chip in three more before the Norse would take set one, 25-19.
Set Two
- The Norse continued set two much the same as they did set one, taking another 17-11 advantage.
- A pair of kills off the hands of Clara Lamb put the Flames within five, 19-14, but NKU got the next three, 22-14.
- The Norse finished off the Flames with a 3-0 streak, 25-16.
Set Three
- 10 kills for the Norse and four attack errors by the Flames led to a 15-9 lead for NKU in set three.
- UIC pulled within four after an Alexandria Hicks kill, an NKU ball handling error and a Lauren Musante ace, 17-13.
- The Flames were unable to close the gap, falling 25-18.
Facts & Figures
- Alexandria Hicks paced the offense with eight kills. Paola Santiago, Brookah Palmer and Michelle Glover each followed with five kills each.
- Velina Minkova led UIC's defensive efforts with nine digs. Santiago dug out eight, while Marija Borcic recorded seven.
- Borcic handed out 17 assists, while Lauren Musante assisted on 12.
- NKU tallied a mere eight kills across the three sets, while the Flames finished with 24 miscues.
- The Norse tallied more kills, 43-33, while the Flames had a slight advantage in digs, 36-35. Northern Kentucky put up 11 blocks to UIC's four.
