Flames Oust SLCOP, 78-51, in Lone Exhibition

UIC opens regular season Nov. 7 at Purdue Fort Wayne

CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team got in its lone preseason tune-up on Monday evening, taking down St. Louis College of Pharmacy, 78-51. The Flames got the job done on both ends of the court, shooting 51.5 percent overall while forcing 29 turnovers, 18 of which were steals.

First Half Highlights
  • Tylah Lampley drove one in to get the scoring started for the Flames, but the Eutectics put one in for three for an early 3-2 lead.
  • Kiarra Thompson responded with a three of her own, and back-to-back steals for the Flames resulted in buckets, giving UIC a 9-3 advantage.
  • Thompson was just shy of another trey, but Lampley was there to drive it in on the second try, 11-3. STLCOP was able to make another long shot, but the Flames rattled off another six unanswered to grow their lead, 17-6.
  • The Eutectics ended the first quarter on a 7-2 run, but UIC still held a 19-13 lead at the end of the first ten minutes of play.
  • The second quarter started with five unanswered points for the visitors, further cutting at the Flames' lead, but UIC continued its thievery, stealing three more and returning them all for two, 27-18.
  • Both teams traded buckets, until a 9-2 run for the Flames pushed the lead into double figures, 40-28.
  • The Eutectics sank another three, but UIC ended the first half taking eight points to STLCOP's three, giving it a comfortable 48-33 lead at the half.
Second Half Highlights
  • The Flames erupted in the second half with 11 unanswered points, extending the lead past 20, 59-33. Lampley took credit for six of those eleven, while Tiana Jackson and Jada Nneji also contributed to the streak.
  • The third quarter ended with layup from Nneji and a comfortable 67-38 lead for UIC.
  • Amira Coles fought to drive one to the basket to start the fourth, but both benches fell silent in the nearly three minutes that followed.
  • Jealissa Presswood ended the drought with a fast break layup, taking a feed from Jackson's defensive board, 71-38.
  • STLCOP wouldn't get its first score of the fourth until less than five minutes remained on the clock, making on from beyond the arc with 4:37 left on the clock.
  • The Eutectics were able to get another pair of triples, but it wouldn't be enough, as the Flames came away with the 78-51 win.
Facts & Figures
  • Lampley led the pack by far, finishing with a game-high 29 points. UIC's lone senior also tallied six steals and made four rebounds.
  • Jada Nneji double-doubled, tallying 11 points to go with 10 rebounds, while also adding four blocks.
  • Kiarra Thompson also finished in double figures with 10 points, while also handing out a game-high seven assists and making six rebounds. Thompson also helped on defense with four steals.
  • Tiana Jackson led the newcomers with eight points, four rebounds and six assists. The freshman made four of the fix shots she took, registering an 80 percent shooting percentage on the night.
  • UIC finished the night shooting 51.5 percent from the field, 21.8 percent beyond the arc, and 30.8 percent from the line, while keeping the Eutectics to 29.5 percent shooting overall.
  • The Flames finished with 42 rebounds to STLCOP's 39, making 17 turnovers while forcing the Eutectics to turn it over 29 times.
  • UIC finished with three times as many steals, 18-6. The Flames also made four stops while the Eutectics made none.
  • The Flames profited 22 points off turnovers, compared to five for the visitors. The Flames were also stronger in the paint (48-12), as well as off the fast break (30-7).
