Flames host Eagles Wednesday night inside Credit Union 1 Arena

CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (1-9) will wrap up the non-conference portion of its schedule on Wednesday night as it hosts Eastern Michigan (3-6). The Flames and Eagles are set to tipoff at 7 p.m. CT on Wednesday inside Credit Union 1 Arena.

LAST TIME OUT
  • UIC dropped a 63-37 decision to former Horizon League foe Valparaiso on Sunday afternoon in its final non-conference road contest of the season.
  • Junior Transfer Jealissa Presswood led the Flames with her best outing so far, posting personal bests in both points (11) and rebounds (8).
  • Freshman Shelby Case finished with a new career high in rebounds, more than doubling her previous mark with nine.
  • Kiarra Thompson also had a strong day on the boards, matching her personal best eight rebounds.
GETTING DEFENSIVE
  • The Flames rank second in the Horizon League in field-goal percentage defense, as opponents average 38.5 percent shooting overall.
  • UIC's opponents are shooting 29.9 percent from beyond the arc, which also ranks second in the Horizon League.
  • The Flames also rank second in the conference in steals (8.00 per game) and third in blocked shots (3.90 per game).
  • Four Flames rank in the League's top-20 in steals: Kimeira Burks (9th, 1.5 per game), Abreanna Lake (12th, 1.3 per game), Tylah Lampley (13th, 1.3 per game) and Tiana Jackson (18th, 1.1 per game).
  • Jada Nneji averages 1.0 blocks per game more than any other player in the League. Lampley also comes in the League's top ten, averaging 0.8 blocks per game.
FLAME THROWER
  • Freshman Kimeira Burks has led the newcomers so far, becoming the first freshman to reach double digits with 11 points against Indiana State (Nov. 19).
  • On Sunday at Valparaiso (Dec. 15), Burks reeled in her second double-digit showing with 10 points.
  • Burks has banked at least one three in five outings so far.
  • The freshman leads the team in three-point attempts (45), while she ranks second in three-point makes with seven.
  • Burks is also the team's runner-up in total points (68) and makes (28). She currently sits third on the team in rebounds with 51.
  • The Chicago native leads the squad with 15 steals, putting her at ninth in the Horizon League.
NNEJI'S BLOCK PARTY
  • Junior Jada Nneji leads the Flames and ranks third in the Horizon League in rebounds, averaging 8.3 boards per game.
  • The Ontario, Canada native is also second on the squad in scoring average, averaging 8.4 points per game.
  • Nneji averages 2.9 blocks per game to lead the Horizon League.
  • The junior recently passed former Flame Angela Gilbert (1989-93) on the career blocks list, moving into seventh place all-time with 106 total blocks.
  • Nneji has made two or more stops in every appearance so far, including a season-high five at Miami (Nov. 26).
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
  • Eastern Michigan is 3-6 this season, most recently defeating future Horizon League member Purdue Fort Wayne on Tuesday (Dec. 10), 64-40.
  • The Eagles have faced one other Horizon League foe this season in Youngstown State. The Penguins edged out Eastern Michigan, 79-77.
  • Aaliyah Stanley leads the EMU offense with an average of 13.1 points per game. The Eagles look to Autumn Hudson on the boards with a 6.1 rebounds per game average, while Jenna Annecchiarico dishes out the most assists with 3.4 helpers per game.
  • As a squad, The Eagles are shooting at a 38.6 clip overall, compared to 40.2 percent for their opponents. EMU is also averaging 62.9 points per game while allowing 65.4 per game on average.
  • Last season the Flames and Eagles collided in Ypsilanti, Mich. with Eastern Michigan taking the win, 52-38.

  • UIC will return from the holiday break on Saturday, Dec. 28 to begin Horizon League action at Cleveland State.
