@UICWBB Collides with City-Rival Chicago State

Flames and Cougars face off Wednesday at 7 p.m. CT

CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (0-7) will make a short trip south to face city-foe Chicago State (0-8) on Wednesday. The Flames and Cougars are set to tipoff at 7 p.m. CT inside Chicago State's Jones Convocation Center.

LAST TIME OUT
  • UIC was handed an 85-35 loss at Miami University on Nov. 26.
  • Freshmen Tiana Jackson and Shelby Case both finished with personal-best outings, tallying 13 points and six points, respectively.
  • Jada Nneji blocked a season-high five, while Kimeira Burks led the squad with seven rebounds.
  • Ahsha Spencer contributed four points and three rebounds for the Flames, and also led the squad with a season-high three steals.
FRESH FACES
  • Kimeira Burks leads the freshmen so far, averaging 6.3 points per game and 5.1 rebounds per game.
  • Burks is also leading the team in steals with 13.
  • Tiana Jackson has also made an early impact, averaging 5.4 points per game and 3.0 rebounds per game, starting in all five of UIC's contests so far.
  • Jackson led the team with a personal-best 13 points at Miami (Nov. 26).
  • Jackson also has the second-most assists on the team with 14.
UPPERCLASSMEN LEADERSHIP
  • Junior Jada Nneji and senior Tylah Lampley have emerged as UIC's primary stat stuffers.
  • Lampley has already shown early offensive leadership, finishing as UIC's top scorer in four of their seven games so far.
  • Lampley leads the team in scoring, field-goal percentage and rebounds, ranking 19th in the Horizon League in scoring (9.7 ppg) and 18th in rebounding (5.1 per game).
  • Nneji put up her first double-digit rebounding effort of the season and eighth of her career against Florida State (Nov. 23), leading all players with 11 boards.
  • The junior leads the team with 12 blocks this season after putting up a season-high five stops at Miami (Nov. 26).
COUGARS CASTING CALL
  • Chicago State is looking for its first win of the season after an 0-8 start to its 2019-20 campaign.
  • The Cougars most recently fell to Nevada (80-60) and UC Santa Barbara (96-65) on Nov. 29 and Dec. 1, respectively, as part of the Nugget Classic.
  • Chicago State boast three players averaging double figures in scoring: Tyeshia Bowers (13.9 ppg), Kourtney Crane (12.9 ppg) and Bethany Carstens (11.6 ppg).
  • Ines Mata Boix handles rebounding for Chicago State, averaging 7.6 boards per game to lead the team.
  • The Cougars have already faced two Horizon League foes this season, falling 98-70 to Oakland (Nov. 16) and 102-46 against top-contender Green Bay (Nov. 23).
