CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team (4-4) improved to .500 on the season after drawing a 5-2 win over city-rival Chicago State (0-7) on Sunday.
Karyna Bihel earned first singles victory in a Flames uniform from the No. 1 spot, while
Lucie Prochazkova,
Rachel Le Comber and
Nell Arendt also took home singles wins for UIC.
Doubles Highlights
Chicago State drew first blood in doubles, as Katarina Drazic and Diana Borodina defeated
Georgia Gulin and
Viktoria Seifert, 6-1.
Rachel Le Comber and
Nell Arendt answered back for UIC at No. 3 with a 6-2 win over Kristina Pukhaev and Lizi Morgoshia.
Lucie Prochazkova and
Georgie Sanders combined to outlast Anastasia Goncharova and Iesha Shepherd at No. 1, 7-5, to clinch the doubles point for UIC.
Singles Highlights
Le Comber brought down Shepherd at No. 5, 6-4, 6-1, to put UIC ahead 2-0. Borodina got the win at No. 4 for Chicago State against Gulin, 6-3, 6-1. Arendt competed against Morgoshia at No. 6 and won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, but Sanders fell to Drazic at No. 3, 6-1, 6-4. Prochazkova clinched the win for the Flames at No. 2 with a 7-6, 6-0 win over Pukhaeva and
Karyna Bihel ended the day for UIC with her first singles victory, a 6-4, 7-5 win over Goncharova in the No. 1 match.
