BOULDER CITY, Nev. -- UIC completed the Battle at Boulder Creek on Tuesday by shooting 323 over the final 18 holes. The Flames finished in fifth place overall with a 54-hole total of 969.
The start of the second day was delayed slightly as a result of some unfavorable weather overnight that produced a fair amount of frost on the course.
"We got off to a very rough start and had a tough time adapting to some of the conditions with firm and frozen greens," said UIC head coach
Mat Blair. "As a team, we were something like 25-over through the first nine holes. We made our adjustments and the girls really bounced back and fought hard to finish their rounds well so we ended up at 10-over over the last nine holes. I'm proud of the way we settled in and played well down the stretch."
Senior
Claudia Stampa and sophomore
Shivani Majmudar had the top rounds of the day for UIC with each signing for a score of 8-over par 80. For both Flames, it marked the lowest round of the tournament as Stampa topped her second-round mark by one stroke and Majmudar was six shots better than her second-round effort.
Another senior,
Meghan Kramp, was the top overall finisher for UIC as she finished in a tie for 21
st place with a three-round score of 242. The Springfield, Ill., native shot 9-over par, 81, Tuesday. Classmate
Kelly Sterling was close behind Kramp on the leaderboard as she shot 243 for the tournament, one stroke in front of freshman
Stephanie Mroz. Mroz's second-round total of 3-over par 75 was the team's low round during the Battle at Boulder Creek.
UNLV won the tournament with a score of 876. Two Rebels,
Elizabeth Prior and
Polly Mack, shared individual medalist honors at 216. Mack had the best round of the day Tuesday at 4-under 68.
