UIC seeking 12 home wins for first time since 2012-13 season

2/23/2019 1:54:00 PM

CHICAGO -- Two teams eagerly looking to burst back into the win column will get together on Sunday afternoon when the UIC Flames host the Milwaukee Panthers in the final home game of the regular season at Credit Union 1 Arena at 3:12 p.m. CT.

UIC (14-14, 8-7 Horizon League) dropped out of a third-place tie after falling to Green Bay by a point on Friday night. The Flames led by as many as 19 points in the nationally-televised game, but the Phoenix stormed back in the second half to take the lead in the final minute and hang on. That moved Green Bay into sole possession of third place and it put UIC in a tie for fourth with Oakland. The Golden Grizzlies host Detroit Mercy Saturday afternoon and the Flames will visit Oakland on Thursday, Feb. 28. The top four teams in the Horizon League standings will host quarterfinal games in the conference tournament on March 5-6.

Milwaukee (9-19, 4-11 Horizon League) has dropped eight straight games and has collected just one victory since topping the Flames at UWM Panther Arena on Jan. 17. The Panthers are fighting for one of the final spots in the Horizon League Championship as the format this season brings only the League's top eight teams to the postseason. MKE will likely need to win its three remaining games against UIC, Northern Kentucky and Wright State to qualify for the tournament.

Tickets remain on sale for the meaningful Horizon League matchup and can be purchased through Ticketmaster. Remember to use the promo code FAMILY to get a seat for only $3.12. For fans unable to make it to Credit Union 1 Arena, Sunday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+. Jonathan Hood and Chris Bleck will be on the call.
