CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team (7-4) took home its fifth-straight victory on Thursday morning with a 7-0 sweep over Cardinal Stritch (1-3) at XS Tennis. The Flames grabbed early wins in doubles to secure the doubles point and went on to take all six singles matches to complete the sweep.
Doubles Highlights
Karyna Bihel and
Rachel Le Comber shut out Antonia Elze and Klara Smolikova 6-0 at No. 2 to start UIC off with a bang in doubles.
Lejla Colic and
Georgia Gulin followed with a 6-2 win at No. 3 over Luise Gruber and Kimberly Tait, handing the doubles point to the Flames.
Lucie Prochazkova and
Georgie Sanders had a 4-3 advantage over Assya Trimari and Lisa Keller at No. 1 before the match went unfinished.
Singles Highlights
Four of UIC's six singles victories were straight-set wins, beginning with Prochazkova's win over Smolikova at No. 3, 6-1, 6-1. Gulin followed with an identical 6-1, 6-1 victory over Elze at No. 5, while Bihel took down Keller at No. 2, also in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2 to clinch the win for UIC. Colic rebounded at No. 1 after dropping the first set 6-3, taking the next two, 6-3, 10-3.
Nell Arendt snuck past Tait at No. 6, 7-5, 6-4, and Sanders outlasted Gruber at No. 4, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (2), to put the Wolves to bed.
