Women’s Tennis Prepares for Busy Weekend

Flames welcome Oregon on Friday before facing Valparaiso and Chicago State on the road

CHICAGO –The UIC women's tennis team (2-3) is preparing for its busiest stretch, facing three teams in three days this weekend. The Flames will welcome Pac-12 member Oregon on Friday, Feb. 8 for their home opener at XS Tennis before hitting the road to face Valparaiso on Saturday and Chicago State on Sunday. All three matches will begin at 10:00 a.m. CT.

The Flames fought back after losing the doubles point and first singles match to take a 4-3 win over Illinois State on Saturday. Georgia Gulin sealed the deal for UIC in the No. 5 match, rallying from a 4-1 hole to take the match 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 and grab the win for UIC.

Oregon is 3-2 after a 4-1 win over Fresno State on Sunday (Feb. 3). The Ducks took the No. 1 and 2 doubles matches to earn the doubles point, while Daniela Nasser secured the match with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 victory at No. 2.

Valparaiso is off to a 1-3 start in the dual season after taking three-straight losses to Toledo (7-0), Butler (6-1) and Horizon League-member IUPUI (7-0). Claire Czerwonka leads the Crusaders from the No. 1 position, owning a 2-2 mark individually.

Chicago State is 0-6, most recently falling 6-1 at Illinois State on Friday (Feb. 1) just one day before UIC came to town to take on the Redbirds. Chicago State has seen a fair share of Horizon League foes, having also met with both Oakland and Wright State earlier this season.

UIC will remain on the road next weekend, facing Bradley (Feb. 15) and SIUE (Feb. 16).
