CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team (8-4) will face Western Michigan (8-6) in its final match before kicking off Horizon League action next week. The Flames and Broncos will meet on Thursday, March 14 at 1 p.m. CT at the Sorensen Courts inside West Hills Athletic Club.
UIC is riding a six-match win streak after completing its second-straight shutout with a 7-0 defeat of Northern Illinois on Friday (March 8). After taking the doubles point, the Flames went on to take all six singles matches in straight sets to take down the Huskies.
Freshman
Nell Arendt has defeated her last five opponents consecutively, while seniors
Rachel Le Comber and
Georgie Sanders as well as sophomore
Lucie Prochazkova have all won their last four straight singles matches. Le Comber's singles win at No. 5 last week was the 69th of her career, putting her just four wins away from the No. 9 spot all-time in UIC history.
In doubles, Le Comber and
Karyna Bihel boast back-to-back 6-0 victories, both coming from the No. 2 spot. Prochazkova was back at No. 1 doubles last week alongside
Lejla Colic for a 6-4 victory in what was just the second time the two have paired up all season. The duo's win clinched the doubles point for the Flames and earned them Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week honors.
Western Michigan was handed a 7-0 deficit by Utah on Tuesday, March 5 in its last outing, dropping all but one singles match in straight sets after losing the doubles point. UIC will look to improve its 3-14 overall record against the Broncos, as well win their second-straight after taking a 4-3 win on Bronco turf last year.
The Flames will open up Horizon League play next week at home, facing Detroit Mercy on Saturday, March 23 at 1 p.m. CT at XS Tennis.
