Flames Shutout by Boise State

UIC held to one hit in 8-0 (5) loss to Broncos

SAN DIEGO – The UIC softball team (3-10) was handed its first shutout of the season on Saturday, taking an 8-0 (5) loss to Boise State in day two of the San Diego Classic. The Flames were held to just one hit in the run-rule setback, as the Broncos took a no-hitter into UIC's final at bat.

Game Highlights
  • Boise State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second off a pair of two-out walks and a single.
  • Back-to-back UIC errors put two on for the Broncos in the top of the third, and both came around to score on back-to-back singles, 3-0. Four more runs crossed the plate after a passed ball, a walk, a triple, and a double, giving Boise State a 7-0 lead.
  • Boise State's leadoff single made it around the bases after two passed balls and a grounder, 8-0.
  • The Flames had an opportunity in the bottom of the fourth, as Schyler Ek led off with a walk, moved to second on a passed ball and went to third on a ground out. Kayla Wedl walked and stole second, and Alyssa Griman drew another walk to load the bases, but the Broncos pitched out of the inning to come out unharmed.
Facts & Figures
  • UIC was held without a hit until the bottom of the fifth, a one-out single by Emily Wetzel. Boise State's Gianna Mancha struck out six Flames and walked four to take the win.
  • Karissa Frazier got the start for UIC and took the loss, allowing six runs on four hits through 2.2 innings. Marley Hanlon pitched the remaining 2.1 innings, giving up two runs off three hits.
