CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team (10-4, 1-0 HL) kept its win streak alive with a 7-0 shutout of Detroit Mercy (7-6, 0-1 HL) on Saturday afternoon. After winning the doubles point, the Flames went on and took all six singles matches, five by way of straight sets.
Doubles Highlights
Detroit Mercy's lone win of the day came at No. 2 doubles, as Iris Thioux and Sophie Torcello topped
Rachel Le Comber and
Karyna Bihel, 6-4.
Georgie Sanders and
Viktoria Seifert took down Ksenia Providokhina and Sara Mitrakovic 6-2 at No. 3 to even the score, while
Lejla Colic and
Lucie Prochazkova held on for the win at No. 1, 7-5, against Jasmine Apawti and Chelsea Apwati.
Singles Highlights
Prochazkova made quick work out of Chelsea Apwati at No. 3, 6-0, 6-0. Le Comber followed with a win at No. 5, 6-1, 6-4, while Bihel came out on top at No. 2, 6-2, 6-1 to clinch the win for UIC. Sanders got UIC's second shutout of the afternoon with a 6-0, 6-0 take down at No. 4 against Providokhina, and Colic was victorious at No. 1, 6-2, 6-4.
Nell Arendt competed at No. 6 and outlasted Pauline Van Herck, 6-2, 4-6, 10-5 for her seventh-straight singles win.
