Two Flames who made big contributions to UIC's season high score on Saturday earned ECAC accolades in an announcement made today.
Sam Montague was named Gymnast of the Week, and
Kaleb Booth was named Rookie of the Week.
Montague set four career highs on Saturday, helping lead the Flames to a season-best score in a competitively charged tri-meet at Cal with defending national champion Oklahoma. He started by scoring 11.900 on pommel horse, and posted a 12.400 on still rings in the next rotation. Later in the meet, he scored 12.800 on parallel bars. He also set a season high with his 12.550 on high bar. Montague's high bar score was the best on the team. With career highs on pommel horse, rings, and p-bars all contributing, he posted a career best all-around total of 76.900, which was good for third place in the meet.
Booth competed on floor and vault in Berkeley. He had the team's highest scores in both of those events. He had a season high score on floor, with a 13.950 that bested his previous high by a quarter of a point. He finished sixth overall. His score of 14.150 on vault was good for eighth as the freshman showed that he can compete with the top gymnasts in the nation.
Montague is the Gymnast of the Week for the second time. Booth won Specialist of the Week after the first meet of the season, but this is his and the team's first Rookie of the Week honor this year.
The Flames will be back in action Saturday at Michigan in the final meet before the ECAC Championships.
