BEAUMONT, Texas -- Competing in a tournament for the first time in six weeks, the UIC Flames resumed their spring slate on Monday, April 1 at the Cardinal Classic hosted by Lamar University in Beaumont Texas. After the first 36 holes, UIC sits in ninth place with a two-round total of 97-over par, 665.
The Flames shot 337 in the morning round and were in ninth place heading into the afternoon session. While it cut nine strokes off the team total over the second 18 holes of the day, UIC was unable to jump anyone on the team leaderboard. Incarnate Word is 17 shots in front of the Flames to begin the final day of the tournament, while UIC is 46 strokes in front of Prairie View A&M. The Flames will be paired with players from Stephen F. Austin and UIW in round three.
Playing in the second spot in the lineup, senior
Kelly Sterling led the way for UIC on Monday. She shot 8-over par 79 in the first round, which was the low number turned in by any individual on the team Monday. She followed that up with a 10-over par 81 in the afternoon and she is tied 23
rd place after one day. Classmate
Meghan Kramp is four shots behind Sterling and in a group tied for 36
th place.
Competing as an individual, freshman
Adrienne Montalone is two shots in back of Kramp with a two-round total of 166. Senior
Claudia Stampa made a significant ascension up the leaderboard by cutting 12 shots over her card from round one to round two, in which she finished at 9-over par 80.
