GRIFFITH, Ind. – The UIC women's tennis team (17-4, 7-0 HL) kept to its winning ways on Sunday with a 5-2 victory over Horizon League foe Milwaukee (12-9, 5-3 HL). The Flames fell into a 1-0 hole after dropping the doubles point, but were able to take five out of six singles matches with valiant efforts all around to push their win streak to 15.
Doubles Highlights
Lucie Prochazkova and
Lejla Colic were bested at No. 1 by Milwaukee's Nicole Clarke and Mayya Perova, 6-2.
Georgie Sanders and
Viktoria Seifert fell at No. 3 to Agata Jurczak and Nikki Milner, 6-0, to give the Panthers a 1-0 advantage. The No. 2 match pitted
Rachel Le Comber and
Karyna Bihel against Alex Belle and Anna Daniel Fuentes, but it went unfinished.
Singles Highlights
Le Comber took care of Milner at No. 5 in less than an hour's time with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep to quickly even the score at 1-1. Le Comber's win places her in a tie for seventh all-time, owning 78 career singles wins alongside former Flame
Jacki Farr. Seifert defeated Fuentes in straight sets at No. 6, 6-3, 6-3, to put UIC ahead, and Bihel extended the lead with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2 over Perova, despite staring down a 4-0 deficit in the second set. The Panthers got their second point of the match at No. 1, as Belle defeated Colic, 6-4, 6-2, but Sanders battled at No. 4 to clinch the win for UIC, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. Prochazkova won a hard-fought match at No. 3, 6-7 (3), 6-2, 7-6 (3), coming back from a 4-1 hole in the third set to take the win.
