BEAUMONT, Texas -- UIC finished up the 2019 Cardinal Classic on Beaumont Country Club with a single 18-hole round on Tuesday morning. As a team the Flames shot 377 in the third round and finished in ninth place with a 54-hole total of 150-over par, 1,002.

The Flames were unable to gain any ground on the field Tuesday. UIC finished ninth among the 10 teams in all three rounds at the Cardinal Classic with team scores of 337, 328 and another 337.

"It was a bit of a rough tournament for us," said UIC head coach Mat Blair. "From tee to green, we actually played pretty well. The greens were extremely quick and very undulated. You could tell the difference between being outside and being inside."

Senior Kelly Sterling paced the Flames as she finished 35th overall in the field of 59 golfers. Her first-round score of 8-over par 79 was the low mark for any UIC player during the tournament. Freshman Adrienne Montalone, competing as an invidual entry, was two shots behind Sterling to finish 37th. She was fourth among the individual players. Along with senior Claudia Stampa, Montalone carded the team's lowest round on Tuesday at 10-over par 81. Meghan Kramp was also in the top 40 at 249 for the tournament. Stampa was hampered by a difficult opening round and she placed 46th.

UIC's final tuneup before the 2019 Horizon League Championship will take place on April 6-7 at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational hosted by Bowling Green. The 36-hole event will begin at 8 a.m. CT each day with a shotgun start. The 10-team field also features Horizon League foes Oakland, Cleveland State and Detroit Mercy.

"We look forward to getting on track next week at Bowling Green, and then two weeks after that we've got conference." said Blair. "We've got a lot of work to do, but I know we can get there."
