CLEVELAND, Ohio – The UIC women's tennis team (18-5, 8-1 HL) reeled in its third-straight regular season title on Saturday, taking down top-contending Cleveland State (15-8, 8-1 HL). The Flames battled back from a late 3-2 deficit to take the final two singles matches in their respective third sets, handing Cleveland State its first loss at home of the season.
The Flames will share the regular season title with the Vikings, who finished the year with an identical 8-1 record, but the No. 1 seed will go to UIC following today's head-to-head battle. Â
Doubles Highlights
Lejla Colic and
Lucie Prochazkova came out on top against Klara Mrcela and Isabella Spindler, 6-3, but
Rachel Le Comber and
Karyna Bihel fell by the same score at No. 2 to Cleveland State's Kateryna Avram and Lara Prosenjak.
Viktoria Seifert and
Georgia Gulin were bested by Sian Payne and Gaby Shoenberg at No. 3, 6-2, to give the Vikings a 1-0 advantage.
Singles Highlights
Prochazkova took care of Prosenjak at No. 3, 6-0. 6-2 to even the score at one, and Bihel grabbed a straight-set win at No. 2, 6-2, 6-2 over Mrcela to put the Flames ahead. Schoenberg defeated Le Comber at No. 5, 6-2, 7-5 to once again tie the match, but a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6 for Avram over Seifert gave the Vikings a 3-2 advantage. Colic went up against Spindler at No. 1 and was able to come out on top in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3, and
Georgie Sanders sealed the deal for UIC in the No. 4 match, holding off Payne for the 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 win.
