CHICAGO – The No. 1 seeded UIC women's tennis team (18-5, 8-1 HL) is headed to Lafayette, Ind. this weekend to compete for the Horizon League crown. The Regular Season Champions received a first-round bye into the semifinals, where they will play the winner of the No.4/No.5 match on Saturday, April 27 at 2 p.m. CT inside the Schwartz Tennis Center.
The Flames clinched the No. 1 seed on Saturday (April 20) with a 4-3 victory over top-contending Cleveland State to take their third-straight regular season title. The Flames battled back from a late 3-2 deficit to take the final two singles matches in their respective third sets, handing Cleveland State its first loss at home of the season.
UIC finished the regular season with a 43-11 record against Horizon League opponents, led by 8-1 performances by
Lucie Prochazkova and
Rachel Le Comber.
Lejla Colic and
Georgie Sanders both finished with a 7-2 mark against Horizon League foes, while
Karyna Bihel finished at 6-3.
In doubles, the Flames went 13-9 in conference matches, led by a 5-2 showing from Colic and Prochazkova.
Viktoria Seifert and
Georgie Sanders went 4-2 against League opponents, and Bihel and Le Comber joined up for a 4-4 record versus Horizon League foes.
UIC will be facing either No. 4 Milwaukee or No. 5 Wright State in the semifinals. The Flames defeated the Raiders 4-3 back on March 31 and were also victorious over the Panthers in the regular season, 5-2, on April 14.
The winner of the semifinal match moves on to the Championship, which will be played on Sunday, April 28 at 2 p.m.
