WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The No. 1 seeded UIC women's tennis team (20-5) captured its 18th conference title in program history and its first Horizon League Championship since 2013 on Sunday afternoon with a dominating 4-0 win over No. 2 seed Cleveland State (16-10). The win was the 20th for the Flames this season, tying a program record set by the 2010 squad.
Doubles Highlights
UIC made quick work of the Vikings in doubles, earning the 1-0 lead in under a half hour.
Lucie Prochazkova paired up with
Karyna Bihel to take down Lara Prosenjak and Kateryna Avram at No. 2, 6-1, and
Georgia Gulin and
Rachel Le Comber defeated Sian Payne and Gaby Schoenberg at No. 3 by the same score, 6-1, to give UIC the early advantage. The No. 1 match had
Lejla Colic and
Georgie Sanders ahead 5-2 on Isabella Spindler and Klara Mrcela before ultimately going unfinished.
Singles Highlights
Bihel bested Mrcela in the No. 2 match, 6-2, 6-0, and Prochazkova put the Flames one match away from victory with a 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 over Prosenjak. It was Gulin who clinched the win, and the Championship for the Flames in the No. 6 match, taking down Avram, 7-5, 6-3. The No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5 matches went unfinished following Gulin's clinch.
