BOWLING GREEN -- UIC began its final tournament prior to the 2019 Horizon League Championship on Saturday and the Flames shot 38-over par, 326, at Stone Ridge Golf Club in the first round of the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational.
UIC's effort was led by freshman
Stephanie Mroz. The Oak Park, Ill., native shot 7-over par 79 on Saturday and she is in a group that is tied for 30
th place on the individual leaderboard. Mroz shot par on 13 of 18 holes, most on the team Saturday.
Three shots in back of Mroz at 10-over par, 82, are seniors
Claudia Stampa and
Kelly Sterling. Sterling had one of UIC's two team birdies on Saturday as she carded a three on the par-4 13
th hole.
Shivani Majmudar shot 11-over, 83, and
Adrienne Montalone shot 12-over, 84. Montalone had the other birdie for UIC, making hers on the par-5 7
th hole.
The final round will go off at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday. UIC will be paired with Central Michigan and Horizon League foe Detroit Mercy. The Chippewas lead the Flames by 16 shots and Titans were six strokes better in round one.
