CHICAGO -- The UIC volleyball team (10-2) swept intercity rival DePaul (8-2) in the opening match of the Chicago Cup Friday evening. The Flames were tested in all three sets but emerged with the 27-25, 25-23, 23-19 victory. Michelle Glover led the way with 14 kills and four solo blocks.
 
Match Highlights
Set One

• The Blue Demons opened up the match by jumping out to a 5-1 lead before pushing the advantage to 6-2.
• A DePaul attack error evened the set at 10-all, with UIC taking its first lead on the next point off a Brookah Palmer ace. Palmer served up two more aces in a row to give the Flames the 13-10 lead.
• The teams were tied at 23-all, 24-all and 25-all before a Glover kill and DePaul bad set gave the Flames the 27-25 victory

Set Two

• With UIC leading 9-8 in the second set, DePaul ripped off six consecutive points to take a 14-9 lead.
• The Flames clawed their way back to tie things up at 19-all before taking a 24-21 lead.
• DePaul countered with two straight points to pull within one but another bad set by the Blue Devils gave UIC the second set, 25-23.

Set Three

• It was UIC's turn to jump out to an early lead, taking a commanding 5-1 lead before DePaul came back to take its first lead of the set at 8-7.
• Tied at 17-all, UIC won four consecutive points to force a Blue Demon timeout.
• Owning a 23-19 lead, UIC received back-to-back kills by Tatyana Ndekwe and Glover to seal the 3-0 sweep with a 25-19 victory.

Facts and Figures

• Glover led UIC with a game-high 14 kills and four blocks. Paola Santiago added eight kills and Alexandria Hicks contributed seven to lead the offense.
• Marija Borcic dished out a game-high 18 assists and was added by 15 assists from Lauren Musante.
• As a team, UIC delivered 10 aces compared to the two for DePaul
• The Flames also dominated the net, out-blocking the Blue Demons, 10-6.
