DETROIT, MICH. --Â The UIC men's soccer team forced overtime with 26 seconds remaining in regulation, and then found the back of the net again in the extra period to come back and defeat Detroit Mercy, 2-1, Saturday.

Trailing 1-0 in the 90th minute of play, Jacob Graiber scored the equalizer with 23 seconds remaining to force Saturday's game to overtime. In the OT period, Pau Mateo scored the game-winner 3:47 into the action off a header for his first goal of the season to complete the comeback.

The Flames head just outside city limits Tuesday evening, facing Northwestern in non-conference action. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.

Moments That Mattered
- Vasilas Sokratis was called into action eight minutes into the game, saving the Titan shot on goal. It was his first of three saves on the evening.
- After four Detroit Mercy shots to open the contest, Bar Hazut registered the first shot in the 15th minute. His attempt was saved by the Titans' netminder
- Cristian Sanchez nearly scored one minute into the second half, but Devin Mendez stood tall for the save.
- Sokratis had his number called 54th minute, collecting his second save of the night on a shot attempt by Daniel Iyok.
- In the 71st minute, Detroit Mercy broke through for the game's first goal. Collin Cavanaugh collected the ball in the box off a deflection and beat Sokratis to put the Titans up 1-0.
- Looking to push the contest to overtime, UIC pushed the attack forward, firing off a number of shots.
- The equalizer came with 23 seconds remaining after Eduardo Garcia's service into the box found the head of Jacob Graiber in the box, who buried the header.
- The Flames struck again in overtime to seal the victory. With 3:47 gone in the extra period, Jose Perez Flores sent a ball into the box. The service found Mateo's head, who beat the keeper and complete the comeback.

- Graiber scored his second goal of the year and now has five points, tied for fourth-most on the team. Mateo led the team with four shots Saturday and his goal is his first this season.

- UIC out-shot Detroit Mercy, 19-12, including a 12-6 advantage in the second half. The Flames also owned an advantage in shots on goal, 7-4. The Flames held a slight 8-7 edge in corner kicks.

- UIC has now won two consecutive matches against Detroit Mercy. Prior to last year, the Flame's last win against the Titans came in 2013.
