Flames Get Swept up by Milwaukee, 3-0

UIC falls to 0-2 in Horizon League play

CHICAGO – The UIC volleyball team (11-5, 0-2 HL) dropped a 3-0 decision to Horizon League foe Milwaukee (14-1, 1-0 HL) on Saturday afternoon. The Flames were unable to put a stop to the Panthers' League-leading offense, as Milwaukee hit .273 as a squad and tallied 50 kills to UIC's 35.

Match Highlights
Set One
  • Milwaukee pulled out to a 16-9 advantage and never looked back, taking the set 25-15.
  • The Panthers were supported by an offensive attack that hit .353 with 16 kills in the set, compared to just .091 hitting and nine kills for the Flames.
Set Two
  • Milwaukee continued its offensive push, taking an 18-13 lead in the second frame.
  • The Flames would eventually pull within two, 20-18, after a pair of blocks and a Kiera James kill, but the Panthers finished the set taking four of the final five points to finish it, 25-20.
  • Milwaukee posted another 16 kills in the frame, behind another efficient .214 attack percentage as a squad. The Flames were held to just .086 hitting in the second.
Set Three
  • Set three was tied at 11, but a 3-0 run for the Panthers created some distance, 14-11.
  • Milwaukee's lead grew to six, 19-13, after a pair of kills, a service ace and a UIC error.
  • The Flames were able to come within two late, 23-21, after kills from James and Tatyana Ndekwe, but a kill and a block for the Panthers would end the set in their favor, 25-21.

  • Kiera James led UIC's offensive efforts with eight kills. Michelle Glover followed with seven.
  • Lauren Musante tallied her fourth double-double of the season with 13 assists and a team-high 10 digs.
  • Marija Borcic was in double-double territory with 13 assists and nine digs.
  • Glover contributed eight digs on defense, helping the Flames out-block the panthers 12-8.
  • Milwaukee's .273 hitting percentage was the second-highest of any UIC opponent this season, second only to Northwestern's .308 percentage last week on Sept. 21.
