Flames face League-Leading Jags Saturday at 2 p.m. CT

CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (2-17, 1-7 HL) return home to Chicago this weekend to play host to the Horizon League's top team in IUPUI (13-6, 7-1 HL). The Flames and Jags pair up on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. CT inside Credit Union 1 Arena.

WITH A WIN, UIC WOULD:
  • Improve to 3-17 on the season
  • Win its second Horizon League game of the season
  • Grab its first-ever win against IUPUI
  • Win its second game at home this season
LAST TIME OUT
  • UIC was handed a 73-36 loss at Green Bay on Sunday afternoon.
  • Freshman Tiana Jackson led the Flames' offensive efforts with 12 points, just one-point shy of her career-high.
  • 24 of UIC's 36 points came from within the paint in the loss. Green Bay finished with 32 paint points.
  • The Flames also tallied their second-fewest turnovers of the season with 17, compared to 18 miscues made by the Phoenix.
GOOD FIRST IMPRESSIONS
  • Tiana Jackson has had impressive freshman season for the Flames, averaging 6.8 points per game.
  • Jackson owns the second-most assists on the squad with 33, giving her an average of 2.2 per contest. Her 2.2 assists per game ranks 16th in the Horizon League.
  • The freshman is third on the team in shooting, making 36.6 percent of her shots overall.
  • Jackson has reached double-digits on four occasions, most recently scoring a team-high 12 points on Sunday (Jan. 19) at Green Bay. Jackson also took home double-digit scoring efforts at Miami (Nov. 26), vs. Oakland (Jan. 4) and vs. Wright State (Jan. 9).
  • The New Jersey native is seventh in the Horizon League in steals, averaging 1.4 takes per game.
FLAME THROWER
  • Freshman Kimeira Burks is making a statement in her first year as a Flame, leading the team in both three-point attempts (88), and makes (19).
  • Burks is also third on the squad in points (129), makes (50) and rebounds (75).
  • The Chicago native owns 22 steals this season, landing her in the League's top-15.
  • The freshman had her best showing of the season so far at Milwaukee (Jan. 17), reeling in 19 points behind 7-of-14 shooting.
  • Burks has banked at least one three in 11 outings so far. Her four threes against Milwaukee were a personal best.
  • Burks became the first freshman to reach double digits on Nov. 19 with 11 points against Indiana State.
  • Her other double-digit showings came against Valparaiso (10 pts.) and Oakland (10 pts.).
  • The first-year Flame is one of just three Flames to appear in every game so far.
SCOUTING THE JAGUARS
  • IUPUI is the top team in the League, owning a 13-6 record overall with a 7-1 record in conference play.
  • The Jags have won their last seven games consecutively, dating back to Dec. 30.
  • IUPUI leads the League in both scoring offense (71.7 ppg) as well as scoring defense (57.3 ppg). It is also the top-shooting team in the conference, making 45.9 percent of its shots overall.
  • Reigning Horizon League Player of the Year Macee Williams leads the Jags and ranks third in the conference in scoring, putting up an average of 16.6 points per game.
  • Williams also leads her squad with an average of 9.3 rebounds per game to lead all Horizon League players. She is also the League's top shooter, making 59.5 percent of her shots overall.
  • Holly Hoopingarner ranks second in the League with an average of 3.6 assists per game. Hoopingarner also ranks 14th in the conference in three-point field goals per game with an average of 1.4 per contest.
UP NEXT
  • UIC will open up the second half of Horizon League play next weekend at home against Youngstown State (Jan. 30) and Cleveland State (Feb. 1).
