Women’s Tennis Drops Opener at Marquette

Flames fall 6-1

Box Score MILWAUKEE – The UIC women's tennis team (0-1) started off the 2020 dual season on Saturday morning with a 6-1 loss to a tough Marquette (1-0) team. Izzy Marshall took home the lone victory for the Flames, defeating her opponent in the four spot in straight sets.

Doubles Highlights
Lejla Colic and Izzy Marshall took on Fleur Eggink and Natalija Popovic in the No. 1 match, falling 6-2. The No. 3 had Marquette's Milica Novakovic and Lesley Foe defeating Georgia Gulin and Nell Arendt, 6-3, giving the Golden Eagles the doubles point. Lucie Prochazkova joined up with Karyna Bihel at No. 2, dropping a 7-5 decision to Elizabeth Desmarais and Giulia Turconi.

Singles Highlights
Izzy Marshall's 6-3, 6-1 win over Giulia Turconi at No. 4 evened the match at one, but the Golden Eagles would take the next five matches unanswered. Karyna Bihel was bested at No. 2, 6-3, 6-3 to Milica Novakovic, followed by a 6-4, 6-4 loss at No. 3 for Lucie Prochazkova. The No. 1 match had Lejla Colic falling 7-6 (5), 6-2 to Fleur Eggink. Georgia Gulin picked up the first set in the No. 5 match, 6-4, but Marquette's Isabella Franks picked up the next two, 7-5, 10-4. Nell Arendt fought back from a 6-3 set one loss at No. 6 before taking set two, 7-5, but the final set went to her opponent, Elizabeth Desmarais, 6-0.
