CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (1-13, 0-3 HL) will continue its four-game homestand this weekend as it welcomes Horizon League foe Oakland (6-7, 1-1 HL) to Credit Union 1 Arena. The two teams are scheduled to tipoff on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 2 p.m. CT.
WITH A WIN, UIC WOULD:
- Improve to 2-13 on the season
- Win its first Horizon League game of the Season
- Improve to 10-6 all-time against Oakland
- Win its first home game of the season
LAST TIME OUT
- UIC's came up short in its Horizon League home opener, falling 70-62 against Detroit Mercy.
- Jada Nneji and Jealissa Presswood both finished with career high points, as three Flames finished in double figures for the first time this season.
- Nneji tallied 21 points - the first 20+ showing of her career. She also made a career-high five steals.
- Presswood's 13 points were also a career high. She also matched her personal best with eight rebounds.
- Tylah Lampley finished with 19 points, while making a career-high six steals on defense.
- The Flames ended the night shooting 40.4 percent, marking their second-straight outing shooting better than 40 percent.
- UIC scored 30 of its points from within the paint for the second-straight contest.
NNEJI'S BLOCK PARTY
- Junior Jada Nneji recently passed former Flame Angela Gilbert (1989-93) on the career blocks list, moving into seventh place all-time with 112 career blocks. She is now just seven blocks away from the sixth spot all-time.
- The 2018-19 Horizon League All-Defensive Team honoree is averaging 2.4 blocks per game this season to lead the Horizon League.
- Nneji's is one of just two Flames to average in double figures, scoring an average of 10.0 points per game, owning five double-digit scoring performances.
- Nneji ranks fifth in the League in rebounds, averaging 7.9 boards per game. She owns three double-digit rebounding performances, vs. Florida State (Nov. 23), vs. Western Michigan and vs. Eastern Michigan (Dec. 18).
- Nneji has made two or more stops in all but three appearances so far, including a season-high five at Miami (Nov. 26).
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIZZLIES
- The Golden Grizzlies are one game below the .500 mark at 6-7 and have split their first two Horizon League contests.
- Jalisha Terry leads Oakland's offense and sits 13th in the League, averaging 11.1 points per game. She also leads the squad with 3.1 assist per game, putting her at 7th in the conference.
- Chloe Guingrich averages 8.0 rebounds per game, which ranks third in the Horizon League.
- The Flames and Golden Grizzlies split last year's meeting, with each team winning on its home court. Oakland owns the advantage all-time, 10-5.
