Flames Conclude Roadtrip at Cleveland State

UIC concludes a five-game roadtrip Saturday against Cleveland State

CHICAGO -- The UIC basketball team, winners of four of its last five games, closes out a season-long five-game roadtrip Saturday afternoon at Cleveland State. Tipoff in Cleveland is set for 2 p.m. (CT).

3 POINT PLAY
• UIC opened the second half of Horizon League play with a thrilling 90-83 overtime victory against Youngstown State on Thursday evening. Trailing by nine with 3:43 to play, the Flames closed the game on a 14-5 run to force the extra period. Marcus Ottey had his first 20-point game of the year, scoring a season-high 22 while Braelen Bridges added 20.
• The Flames lead the conference in blocked shots per game with 4.1 and total blocks with 95. UIC's 95 blocks this year rank 40th nationally. The Flames rank 30th in the country with 333 assists on the year.
• Tarkus Ferguson is one of two active players in Division I basketball with at least 1,400 career points, 600 career rebounds and 500 career assists. He is joined by Merrimack's Juvaris Hayes.

SERIES STUFF
• UIC is looking to sweep the season series for the second year in a row.
• The Flames opened the 2019-20 Horizon League season with a 71-66 victory on Dec. 28, 2019. Four Flames scored in double figures, led by 21 points bench points from Godwin Boahen. Braelen Bridges added a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds while Marcus Ottey (13) and Tarkus Ferguson (12) also scored surpassed 10 points.
• Algevon Eichelberger leads the CSU attack, averaging a team-leading 13.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
• Dennis Gates is in his first year at the helm of Clevelend State after spending the last eight years on the Florida State coaching staff.

ROAD WARRIORS
• Saturday's game will wrap up a season-long five-game roadtrip. UIC will play its first home game since a 76-72 win over Wright State (Jan. 12) on Feb. 6 when the Flames play host to Milwaukee.
• UIC is currently 3-1 on the trip with wins over IUPUI, Oakland and Youngstown State.
• The Flames will end the season playing five of their final seven games in the comforts of their home arena.

LEADERS OF THE PACK
• Looking at the Horizon League schools in conference play, UIC leads in a number of statistical categories.
• In conference-only games, the Flames lead the league in field goal percentage (.470), field goal percentage defense (.402), defensive rebounds collected (27.6), while ranking second in blocked shots (4.8), 3-point field goal percentage defense (.264) and rebounds allowed (34.3), 
• Individually, Tarkus Ferguson paces his counterparts in 3-point field goal percentage in league-only games, shooting at a .424 clip.

MARCH OF THE PENGUINS
• UIC used a 14-5 run to close the game to force overtime against Youngstown State (Jan. 30) before outscoring the Penguins, 15-8, in the extra period.
• The Flames marched to the line nine times during the overtime period, sealing the victory with an 8-for-9 shooting performance from the charity stripe.
• Tarkus Ferguson (4-4) and Marcus Ottey (2-2) each went perfect from the free throw line in the OT period.
