@UICWBB Looks to Stay Hot Against Cleveland State

Flames and Vikings meet Saturday at 2 p.m. CT

CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (3-18, 2-8 HL) will look to pick up another win at home on Saturday, Feb. 1 as it welcomes Horizon League foe Cleveland State (15-6, 5-5 HL) to the Credit Union 1 Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT.

WITH A WIN, UIC WOULD:
  • Improve to 4-18 on the season
  • Win its third Horizon League game of the season
  • Improve to 34-44 all-time against Cleveland State
  • Snap an eight-game losing streak against the Vikings
  • Win its third game at home this season
LAST TIME OUT
  • UIC picked up its second Horizon League win of the season on Thursday (Jan. 30), defeating Youngstown State 59-53.
  • The Flames ended the night shooting 44.7 percent (21-of-47) overall, while keeping the Penguins to 32.3 percent (20-of-62) from the field.
  • Freshmen Kimeira Burks and Tiana Jackson led the Flames with career-high performances, reeling in 20 points and 18 points, respectively.
  • Senior Tylah Lampley also finished in double figures with 12 points.
  • The win was UIC's first over Youngstown State since Feb. 27, 2015, snapping a nine-game losing streak against the Penguins.
FLAME THROWER
  • Freshman Kimeira Burks is making a statement in her first year as a Flame, leading the team in field goal attempts (207), three-point attempts (97), and makes (23).
  • Burks is also third on the squad in points (154), field goal makes (59) and rebounds (85).
  • The Chicago native owns 24 steals this season, landing her in the League's top-15.
  • On Thursday (Jan. 30) against Youngstown State, Burks led all scorers with a career-high 20 points, her fifth double-digit showing of the season
  • The freshman also led the squad at Milwaukee (Jan. 17), reeling in 19 points behind 7-of-14 shooting that included a personal-best four threes.
  • Burks has banked at least one three in 13 outings so far.
  • Burks was the first freshman to reach double digits with 11 points against Indiana State on Nov. 19.
  • Her other double-digit showings came against Valparaiso (10 pts.) and Oakland (10 pts.).
  • The first-year Flame is one of just three Flames to appear in every game so far.
GOOD FIRST IMPRESSIONS
  • Tiana Jackson has had impressive freshman season for the Flames, averaging 7.9 points per game.
  • Jackson owns the second-most assists on the squad with 43, giving her an average of 2.5 per contest. Her 2.4 assists per game ranks 10th in the Horizon League.
  • The freshman is third on the team in shooting, making 38 percent of her shots overall.
  • Jackson has reached double-digits on six occasions and in her last three showings consecutively, most recently racking up a career-high 18 points on Thursday (Jan. 30) behind 7-of-11 shooting against Youngstown State.
  • The New Jersey native comes in at ninth in the Horizon League in steals, averaging 1.2 takes per game.
SCOUTING THE VIKINGS
  • Cleveland State is 15-6 on the season and 5-5 in Horizon League action, falling in their last two games. The Vikings most recently dropped a 58-48 decision at first place IUPUI on Thursday.
  • Cleveland State ranks second in the conference in field goal percentage (41.7 percent), field goal defense (37.6 percent), three-point shooting (34.7 percent) and three-point field goal defense (28.9 percent).
  • The Vikings lead the League in steals by a hefty margin, averaging 10.52 steals per game, compared to IUPUI's 8.00 per game average in second.
  • Mariah Miller is the Vikings' and the Horizon League's top scorer, averaging 18.4 points per contest. She also places sixth in the conference in rebounds, averaging 7.7 boards per game.
