Home Debut Up Next for Flames

UIC plays host to Central Michigan on Saturday, Nov. 28

CHICAGO -- UIC makes its home debut on Saturday, Nov. 28 as the Flames play host to Central Michigan inside Credit Union 1 Arena. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN3. UIC won its season debut in thrilling fashion on Wednesday, Nov. 25, overcoming a 22-point second-half deficit to defeat Northern Illinois, 65-61. RayQuawndis Mitchell's go-ahead 3-pointer with 16.6 seconds remaining gave the Flames a one-point lead. A perfect 4-for-4 performance from the free throw line in the closing seconds sealed the victory. Head coach Luke Yaklich picked up his first win as a college head coach with the victory over the Huskies. He became the fifth head coach to win their head coaching debut with the Flames and first since Willie Little's squad defeated Brooklyn, 91-77, on Nov. 26, 1983.

FAMILIAR FACES
•    Saturday's game against Central Michigan will feature a pair of familiar faces for the Flames.
•    Former Flame Ralph Bissainthe will suit up for the Chippewas. Bissainthe earned a redshirt as a true freshman in 2017-18 before appearing in 10 games as a redshirt freshman in 2018-19. 
•    PJ Mitchell, a redshirt sophomore for the Chippewas, attended the same high school (Detroit Edison) as UIC sophomore Brian Taylor.

LATE-GAME HEROICS
•    UIC newcomer RayQuawndis Mitchell made an immediate impact for the Flames, making the go-ahead 3-pointer in UIC's 65-61 season-opening victory over Northern Illinois on Nov. 25.
•    Down by one, Mitchell drilled a 3-pointer from the top of the arc with 16.6 seconds remaining to put the Flames ahead, 61-60.
•    Mitchell, who tied a team high with 12 points, scored nine of his 12 points in the second half thanks to three 3-pointers in the final eight minutes of the game.

SECOND-HALF COMEBACK
•    Trailing by 22 points in the second half, UIC outscored Northern Illinois 47-23 over the final 20 minutes to complete the comeback victory on Nov. 25.
•    Over the final 16 minutes of action, UIC was nearly lights out from the field, connecting on 17-of-24 attempts while limiting the Huskies to 7-of-22 shooting with five turnovers during the stretch.
