CHICAGO – Redshirt junior Teyvion Kirk was recognized by College Sports Madness Monday (Dec. 21), as the outlet tabbed Kirk as the National High-Major Player of the Week.

Kirk had a career weekend in leading the Flames to a pair of wins over Oakland to open Horizon League action. In Sunday's finale, Kirk recorded the third triple-double in UIC history, and just the third across Division I basketball this season, with a career-high 22 points and 11 rebounds to go along with 11 assists. Kirk scored 18 of his 22 points in the first half and finished the game 10-of-17 from the field. The triple-double followed a double-double performance in UIC's first win over the Golden Grizzlies this past wekeend. In the series debut, Kirk scored 15 points and 11 assists to go along with eight rebounds for his second double-double of the year.

For the week, Kirk averaged 18.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 11 assists per game, falling one rebound shy of averaging a triple-double for the weekend, while shooting 50% (16-32) from the field. The two wins gives UIC its first 2-0 record to start Horizon League play since the 2007-08 season.

College Sports Madness' High-Major category encompasses players from the Atlantic 10, Colonial, C-USA, Horizon League, Mid-American, Missouri Valley, Mountain West and West Coast conferences.

UIC returns to action Dec. 26-27, hitting the road to take on Milwaukee.
