CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (3-21, 2-11 HL) continues its four-game road stint this weekend, as it heads to Highland Heights, Ky. to take on Northern Kentucky (14-10, 8-5 HL). The Flames and the Norse are set to meet on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. CT inside of NKU's BB&T Arena.
WITH A WIN, UIC WOULD:
- Improve to 4-21 on the season
- Win its third Horizon League game of the season
- Improve to 3-8 all-time against Northern Kentucky
- Snap a three-game losing streak against the Norse
- Win its second game on the road this season
LAST TIME OUT
- UIC's second half comeback fell short on Saturday at Detroit Mercy, as the Flames ultimately fell 58-52.
- The Flames out-scored the Titans 36-20 in the second half to come within four points in the fourth quarter, nearly erasing a 22-point deficit.
- UIC improved from 10.3 percent (3-of-29) shooting in the first half to 50 percent (14-of-28) shooting in the second half, with its 57.1 percent (8-of-14) in the third period as its best on the day.
- Jada Nneji picked up her second double-double of the week, tallying a game-high 18 points to go with a career-high 15 rebounds.
- Kimeira Burks also finished in double figures for the Flames, tallying 13 points to go with six rebounds.
NNEJI'S BLOCK PARTY
- Junior Jada Nneji's 10 blocks last week allowed her to move into a tie for fifth place all-time at UIC with 133 blocks. She stands beside former Flame Stephanie Jost (1997-2001) on the career list.
- The 2018-19 Horizon League All-Defensive Team honoree is averaging 2.2 blocks per game this season to lead the Horizon League.
- Nneji is the lone Flame to average in double figures, scoring an average of 10.7 points per game to rank 14th in the Horizon League. She owns 11 double-digit scoring performances so far this season.
- Nneji has four double-doubles this season after picking one up at both Oakland (10 pts, 11 rebs) and Detroit Mercy (18 pts, 15 rebs) last weekend.
- Nneji leads the squad and ranks seventh in the League in rebounds, averaging 7.5 boards per game. She owns six double-digit rebounding performances, vs. Florida State (Nov. 23), vs. Western Michigan (Dec. 8), vs. Eastern Michigan (Dec. 18), vs. Wright State (Jan. 9), at Oakland (Feb. 6) and at Detroit Mercy (Feb. 8).
- Nneji has made two or more stops in 12 appearances so far, including a season-high six on Thursday at Oakland.
SCOUTING THE NORSE
- Northern Kentucky is third in the Horizon League standings with an 8-5 record in conference action.
- The Norse most recently took down Youngstown State on the road, 59-55.
- NKU ranks third in the Horizon League in scoring defense, allowing an average of 60.8 points per game.
- The Norse also rank third in the League in rebounding offense, pulling down an average of 38 boards per game.
- Molly Glick leads the Norse and ranks sixth in the conference in scoring, averaging 12.6 points per game.
- Kailey Coffey averages 8.0 rebounds per game to lead the squad and rank fourth in the League.
- The Norse have an 8-2 advantage in the series all-time after an 88-46 win earlier this season in Chicago.
