HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Behind a double-double from
Godwin Boahen and two additional Flames in double figures, the UIC men's basketball team routed Northern Kentucky, 73-43, Sunday (Feb. 16) afternoon in the Flames' final road game of the regular season.
Â
The 43 points allowed by UIC's defense are the third-fewest points allowed by UIC since it began competing at the Division I level (1981-82 season). The Flames defeated NAIA member Judson, 79-38, on Dec. 30, 2014 and picked up a 64-42 win over Cleveland State on March 2, 1997 in the second round of the conference tournament (then known as the Midwestern City Conference).
Â
UIC collected its second 30-point road win in conference play this season after defeating Oakland on the road, 80-50, on Jan. 23.
Â
Boahen recorded his second double-double this year, and third of his career with 13 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. He was one of three Flames in double figures, with
Tarkus Ferguson scoring a game-high 14 points and
Michael Diggins adding 11 points and eight rebounds.
Â
The Flames defense bothered Northern Kentucky all afternoon, as the Norse shot a season-low 22.0 percent (13-for-59). It also marked the worst shooting performance by any UIC opponent this season.
Â
UIC returns home for the final three games of the regular season beginning next Saturday, Feb. 22. Tipoff is slated for 3:12 p.m.
