Box Score NORMAL, Ill. – The UIC women's tennis team (1-1) picked up its first win of the dual season on Sunday, taking a short-handed 4-3 win over in-state rival Illinois State (1-2). The Flames won the doubles point and quickly grabbed three singles wins to take home the victory, despite being down one player.
Doubles Highlights
Karyna Bihel and
Lucie Prochazkova got things started for the Flames with a 6-3 win at No. 2 over Laura Fitzgerald and Elena Jankulovska.
Lejla Colic joined
Izzy Marshall at No. 1 to edge past Tara Damnjanovic and Natalia Bravo, 7-5, giving UIC a 1-0 advantage. The No. 3 doubles match went to Illinois State by default.
Singles Highlights
Karyna Bihel took down Natalia Bravo in straight sets at No. 2, 6-3, 6-0, and
Izzy Marshall followed with a straight-set win of her own at No. 4, 6-3, 6-3, over Ivon Mihaleva.
Lucie Prochazkova sealed the deal for the Flames at No. 3, taking down Laura Fitzgerald, 6-4, 6-1. The Redbirds got a win in the No. 1 match, as Tara Damnjanovic defeated
Lejla Colic, 6-4, 2-6, 11-9. The No. 5 match also went to Illinois Sate, with Elena Junkulovska besting
Nell Arendt, 6-4, 7-6 (2). The No. 6 match went to the Redbirds by default.
