Flames Host Green Bay for School Day Outing

UIC welcomes nearly 30 groups to Credit Union 1 Arena on Friday

CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (3-23, 2-13 HL) will kick off its final weekend at home on Friday, Feb. 21 as it welcomes Green Bay (14-12, 9-5) to Credit Union 1 Arena. The Flames and Phoenix will be playing in front of a crowd of over 2,400 students from nearly 30 different groups as part of UIC's School Day Outing. The doors will open at 10 a.m. CT with tipoff scheduled for 11 a.m.

WITH A WIN, UIC WOULD:
  • Improve to 4-23 on the season
  • Win its third Horizon League game of the season
  • Improve to 7-73 all-time against Green Bay
  • Snap a 22-game losing streak against the Phoenix
  • Win its third home game of the year
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Flames closed out their longest road trip of the season on Saturday (Feb. 15) afternoon with a 79-55 to defending Horizon League Champion Wright State.
  • The Raiders held the Flames to just four points and 14.3 percent shooting in the first quarter to create an early gap that UIC was unable to close in the remaining 30 minutes.
  • Three Flames finished in double figures for the fourth time this season, led by Kimeira Burks and Tiana Jackson with 13 points each. It was the eighth double-digit showing for both freshmen.
  • Jada Nneji finished with 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
GOOD FIRST IMPRESSIONS
  • Tiana Jackson has had an impressive freshman season for the Flames, averaging 7.8 points per game.
  • Jackson owns the second-most assists on the squad with 57, giving her an average of 2.6 per contest, which ranks 12th in the Horizon League.
  • The freshman is third on the team in shooting, making 37.4 percent of her shots overall.
  • Jackson has reached double-digits on eight occasions, most recently leading the squad with 13 points at Wright State (Feb. 15).
  • Jackson has been UIC's leading scorer on five occasions. She has also led the team in assists in 11 times this season.
  • The New Jersey native comes in at 12th in the Horizon League in steals, averaging 1.2 takes per game.
SCOUTING THE PHOENIX
  • Green Bay is fourth in the Horizon League standings after defeating both Detroit Mercy and Oakland last weekend.
  • The Phoenix lead the conference in field goal defense, containing their opponents to 37.1 percent shooting from the field.
  • Green Bay also leads the League in assist/turnover ratio at 1.35.
  • Frankie Wurtz paces the Phoenix and ranks fourth in the League, averaging 15.7 points per game. Wurtz specializes in the long ball, leading the League with 2.5 threes per contest.
  • Caitlyn Hibner leads Green Bay in rebounding, averaging 7.1 rebounds per game to rank in the League's top-10.
  • The Flames are looking to improve on a 73-6 all-time record against the Phoenix after falling 73-36 earlier this season in Green Bay.
