FRESNO, Calif. – The UIC softball team (4-6) came up short in its Fresno State Invitational finale on Sunday morning, falling 4-3 to Big Ten-foe Ohio State (6-7). The Flames finish out the tournament with a 1-4 record.

For the second-straight week, freshman Samantha Ferguson led the squad, recording six hits and a .333 batting average. Kayla Wedl tabbed four hits across the five games, followed by Kayla Pociejewski, Tara McElligott and Maddie Spinks with three apiece. Alyssa Griman paced the team with three RBI.

Game Highlights
  • A single, an error and a double allowed Ohio State to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the third.
  • McElligott cut the lead in half with her first home run of the season, a solo shot over the center in the bottom of the third, 2-1.

McKennah Ulrey laid down a bunt and made it to second, while Spinks scored, 4-2.
