CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (3-25, 2-15 HL) will finish out the regular season on Friday, Feb. 28 as it challenges regular season-champion IUPUI (20-8, 14-3 HL). The Flames and the Jags are set to tipoff at 6 p.m. CT inside The Jungle.
WITH A WIN, UIC WOULD:
- Improve to 4-25 on the season
- Win its third Horizon League game of the season
- Win its first-ever game against IUPUI
- Snap a six-game losing streak against the Jags
- Win its second road game of the year
LAST TIME OUT
- The Flames were unable to hold off a late surge from Milwaukee, falling 66-60 in its final home game of the season.
- The Flames led by as many as 13 in the third quarter but were unable to quash a 29-point fourth quarter effort from the Panthers.
- Prior to tipoff, UIC honored its lone senior, Tylah Lampley, for her career as a Flame.
- Jada Nneji led the Flames with a career-high 24 points. She also added seven rebounds.
- Abreanna Lake also finished with a career-high 12 points, four assists, and two steals.
- Kimeira Burks was the third Flame to finish in double-digits with 12 points. She also added four rebounds and two steals.
- The Flames were stronger in the paint, 30-22. They were also better on the second chance, 12-5, as well as off the fast break, 6-2.
LET ME ASSIST YOU
- Junior Abreanna Lake has been making plays for her teammates, averaging 2.9 assists per game to lead the Flames and rank ninth in the Horizon League.
- Lake has handed out five or more assists on five occasions, including a season-high eight against Eastern Michigan (Dec. 18).
- The junior has handed out the most assists for the Flames in 14 contests.
- Lake ranks ninth in the League in assist/turnover ratio, with a ratio of 1.0.
- On the defensive end, Lake owns 36 steals, putting her at 11th in the Horizon League.
- Lake is one of just two Flames to appear in every game this season.
GETTING DEFENSIVE
- The Flames rank fifth in the Horizon League in shooting defense, with opponents making 40.3 percent of their shots overall.
- UIC's opposition is shooting 29.3 percent from beyond the arc, which ranks second in the Horizon League.
- The Flames have held their opponents below 40 percent from the field on 10 occasions, and they have kept the opposition below 35 percent beyond the arc in all but eight contests.
- As a team, UIC sits second the conference in blocks (3.75 per game) and ranks fourth in the conference in steals (7.57 per game).
- Jada Nneji leads the League averaging 2.1 blocks per game. Lampley also comes in the League's top ten, averaging 0.7 blocks per game to rank ninth.
- Five Flames rank in the top-15 in the League in steals: Jada Nneji (6th, 1.4 per game), Tylah Lampley (8th, 1.3 per game), Abreanna Lake (11th, 1.3 per game), Tiana Jackson (12th, 1.1 per game), and Kimeira Burks (13th, 1.1 per game).
SCOUTING THE JAGUARS
- IUPUI captured the regular season crown and secured the No. 1 seed in the Horizon League Tournament on Friday with a 60-53 win over Milwaukee.
- The Jags rank 17th in this week's College Insider Women's Mid-Major Top 25 Poll.
- The regular season champs lead the League in scoring offense (71.9 ppg), scoring defense (57.5 ppg), field-goal percentage (45.8 percent) and three-point field goal percentage (35.5 percent).
- Maccee Williams paces the Jags' offense, averaging 17.6 points per game to lead the Horizon League. She also leads the League in rebounding (8.9 per game). Williams is also number one in the conference and eighth in the nation in field-goal percentage, sinking 60.9 percent of her shots.
- Holly Hoopingarner hands out the most assists for IUPUI, and she leads the League with an average of 3.9 per game.
- The Flames are seeking their first win against the Jags, who have won the last six meetings consecutively. IUPUI took home the victory earlier this season in Chicago, 88-49.
