CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team (4-2) will head east this weekend to face Toledo (4-4) on Saturday, Feb. 29. First serve is set for 9 a.m. CT inside the Twos Athletic Club.
The Flames took home a 4-2 win over Louisiana on Sunday to hand the Ragin' Cajuns their first loss of the season. UIC fought back after losing No. 1 doubles to take the next two matches and went back-and-forth with Louisiana in singles, eventually clinching the win in the No. 6 match.
Karyna Bihel made her career debut in the No. 1 spot and won her fourth-straight match, taking down Louisiana's Floraine Picaut 6-4, 6-1, to earn the title of Horizon League Singles Player of the Week.
Izzy Marshall remains undefeated in the dual season at 5-0, followed by Bihel's four wins. The Flames are 22-13 overall in doubles competition, led by the tandem of
Nell Arendt and
Lucie Prochazkova, who are 3-0 together from the No. 2 spot so far this season.
Toledo improved to .500 on the season after taking a pair of 7-0 shutout wins on Saturday (Feb. 22) over Saint Francis and Findlay. Deedee Leenabanchong leads the pack with a 6-1 record at No. 1, followed by Laura Morera and Sloane Teske's five wins apiece. In doubles, the Rockets are 30-24 overall.
The Flames have a 10-4 advantage all-time against the Rockets. The last meeting between the two squads ended in favor of Toledo, 6-1, back on March 17, 2018.
Following their match with Toledo, the Flames will begin a stretch of four matches in a six-day span, starting with a home match against Bradley on Saturday, March 7.
