@UICWBB Kicks off Four-Game Road Stint at Oakland

Flames and Golden Grizzlies prepare for Thursday night tilt

CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (3-19, 2-9 HL) will embark on its longest road trip of the season, a four-game stint starting off at Oakland (9-12, 4-6 HL). The Flames and Golden Grizzlies will meet on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. CT inside Oakland's Athletic Center O'Rena.

WITH A WIN, UIC WOULD:
  • Improve to 4-19 on the season
  • Win its third Horizon League game of the season
  • Improve to 7-10 all-time against Oakland
  • Win its second-consecutive game against the Golden Grizzlies
  • Win its second game on the road this season
LAST TIME OUT
  • UIC wrapped up a three-game homestand on Saturday (Feb. 1) with an 83-43 loss to Cleveland State.
  • The Viking defense contained the Flames to 23.4 percent from the field, while their offense shot 43.7 percent overall.
  • Jada Nneji got it done on both ends of the court for the Flames with team-highs in both points (14) and rebounds (7), while also adding three blocks and four steals on defense.
  • Amira Coles and Tylah Lampley both finished with six points. Coles was one-point shy of her personal best.
  • Abreanna Lake led the way with four assists.
LET ME ASSIST YOU
  • Junior Abreanna Lake has been making plays for her teammates, averaging 3.1 assists per game to lead the Flames and rank fifth in the Horizon League.
  • Lake has handed out five or more assists on five occasions, including a season-high eight against Eastern Michigan (Dec. 18). On Saturday (Feb. 1) against Cleveland State, Lake led the squad with four helpers.
  • Lake ranks eighth in the League in assist/turnover ratio, with a ratio of 1.0.
  • The junior has handed out the most assists for the Flames in 13 contests.
GOOD FIRST IMPRESSIONS
  • Tiana Jackson has had an impressive freshman season for the Flames, averaging 7.6 points per game.
  • Jackson owns the second-most assists on the squad with 45, giving her an average of 2.5 per contest, which ranks 11th in the Horizon League.
  • The freshman is third on the team in shooting, making 36.7 percent of her shots overall.
  • Jackson has reached double-digits on six occasions and in three of her last four showings, most recently racking up a career-high 18 points on Jan. 30 against Youngstown State behind 7-of-11 shooting.
  • The New Jersey native comes in at 11th in the Horizon League in steals, averaging 1.2 takes per game.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIZZLIES
  • Oakland moved into seventh place in the Horizon League standings with a 65-60 win over Detroit Mercy on Saturday (Feb. 1).
  • The Golden Grizzlies own the second-best free throw percentage in the League at 75.1 percent. Jalisha Terry leads Oakland in the category, making 85.7 percent of her shots from the line to rank second in the conference.
  • Kahlaijah Dean paces the Golden Grizzlies with an average of 12.1 points per game, putting her at eighth in the Horizon League. She is followed closely by Terry and her 11.9 points per game average.
  • Chloe Guingrich averages 7.2 rebounds per game to lead Oakland and rank eighth among Horizon League players.
  • The Flames are 6-10 all-time against the Golden Grizzlies after taking this season's first meeting in overtime back on Jan. 4, 70-64.
