ROCHESTER, Mich. – The UIC women's basketball team (3-20, 2-10 HL) started off its longest road trip of the season on Thursday night with a 63-46 loss at Oakland (10-12, 5-6 HL).
Jada Nneji picked up her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while also making a season-high six blocks on defense.
First Half Highlights
- After two scoreless minutes, Oakland opened the scoring with a short jumper. In the next minute, Abreanna Lake tossed the ball out to Kimeira Burks in the corner, who put it in for three, 3-2.
- The Golden Grizzlies picked up the next four, but a pair of free throws from Shelby Case put UIC within one, 6-5. Oakland rattled off a trio of threes as part of a 10-point streak to create some distance, 16-5. Abreanna Lake and Kiarra Thompson put in layups for the Flames to finish out the first quarter, 16-9.
- Tiana Jackson's jumper started off in the second, which was followed by another Oakland three, 19-11. Freebies from Kiarra Thompson and a jumper from Jada Nneji etched away at the Golden Grizzlies lead, 19-15, but they replied with two more threes and another 10-0 streak, 29-15.
- Jackson and Thompson were able to chip in two more buckets for the Flames before the half ended, 31-19, in favor of the home team.
Second Half Highlights
- Oakland continued to put away the longball in the second half, eventually growing their lead, 44-25.
- The Flames picked up five of the next seven, but the Golden Grizzlies put away another trey, 49-30. Jackson and Nneji gave UIC the final four points of the third quarter, 49-34.
- Oakland got those four points back in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter, 51-34. Both teams then traded scores through the middle minutes of the period, until the Golden Grizzlies were able to string together six unanswered, 61-38.
- Ahsha Spencer put in back-to-back buckets for the Flames, but the game would end in a 63-46 loss for UIC.

- Tiana Jackson led UIC with 11 points, her fourth double-digit showing in the last five outings. She also handed out a team-high four assists.
- Jada Nneji's 10 points came behind 4-of-10 shooting overall and a 2-of-2 showing at the free throw line.
- Kiarra Thompson finished with eight points, four rebounds and a season-high three assists.
- Returning from injury, Shelby Case matched her career high with six points.
- UIC comfortably outscored the Golden Grizzlies in the paint, 34-16. Oakland had the advantage off the Fastbreak, 9-4, as well as on the second chance, 19-0.
- The Golden Grizzlies profited 15 from 25 UIC turnovers. The Flames got two from 15 Oakland miscues.
- The Flames outshot Oakland, making 40.9 percent (18-of-44) of their shots overall compared to 34.4 percent (22-of-64) for the home team.
- Oakland was stronger from three, 39.1 percent (9-of-23) to 14.3 percent (1-of-7), but UIC held the advantage at the free-throw line, 81.0 percent (9-of-11) to 66.7 percent (10-of-15).
- UIC's 81.8 percent shooting from the charity stripe is its second-highest of the season.
