CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (3-20, 2-10 HL) continues its road stint, squaring off with Detroit Mercy (2-20, 2-9 HL) on Saturday, Feb. 8. The Flames and Titans are set to tip off at 12 p.m. CT inside Calihan Hall.
WITH A WIN, UIC WOULD:
- Improve to 4-20 on the season
- Win its third Horizon League game of the season
- Improve to 25-32 all-time against Detroit Mercy
- Snap a five-game losing streak against the Titans
- Win its second game on the road this season
LAST TIME OUT
- UIC opened its longest road stint of the season on Thursday with a 63-46 loss at Oakland.
- Jada Nneji picked up her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while also making a season-high six blocks on defense.
- Tiana Jackson led UIC with 11 points, her fourth double-digit showing in the last five outings. She also handed out a team-high four assists.
- The Flames outshot Oakland, making 40.9 percent (18-of-44) of their shots overall compared to 34.4 percent (22-of-64) for the home team.
- UIC shot 81.8 percent (9-of-11) from the free throw line, its second-highest percentage this season.
NNEJI'S BLOCK PARTY
- Junior Jada Nneji recently passed former Flame Ellen Stenkamp (1983-87) on the career blocks list, moving into sixth place all-time with 129 career blocks. She is now four blocks away from fifth place on the career list.
- The 2018-19 Horizon League All-Defensive Team honoree is averaging 2.2 blocks per game this season to lead the Horizon League.
- Nneji's is the lone Flame to average in double figures, scoring an average of 10.4 points per game to rank 16th in the Horizon League. She owns 10 double-digit scoring performances so far this season.
- Nneji has three double-doubles this season, most recently at Oakland (Feb. 6) with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
- Nneji leads the squad and ranks eighth in the League in rebounds, averaging 7.1 boards per game. She owns five double-digit rebounding performances, vs. Florida State (Nov. 23), vs. Western Michigan, vs. Eastern Michigan (Dec. 18), vs. Wright State and at Oakland.
- Nneji has made two or more stops in 11 appearances so far, including a season-high six on Thursday at Oakland.
SCOUTING THE TITANS
- Detroit Mercy has lost its last five games, most recently falling 95-54 against first-place IUPUI.
- Sylare Starks leads the Titans with an average of 10.0 points per game. Maxine Moore averages 7.7 points per game, followed by Markyia McCormick with 7.5 points per game.
- Zoey Oatis averages 5.9 rebounds per game to pace Detroit Mercy, putting her at 14th in the Horizon League. Oatis is also the Titans' most efficient shooter, sinking 56 percent (61-of-109) of her shots.
- Annika Corcoran hands out the most assists on the team, ranking 12th in the conference with an average of 2.4 per game.
- Detroit Mercy has taken the last five meetings consecutively, including this season's earlier meeting on Jan. 2 in Chicago, 70-62.
