Box Score CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team (8-2) picked up another win over an in-state rival on Wednesday morning, taking down Northern Illinois (12-6) by a final tally of 6-1. The Flames won doubles and picked up straight-set wins in the top three singles matches to clinch their fifth-straight win.
Doubles Highlights
Northern Illinois's Maria Potsi and Fernanda Naves defeated
Lucie Prochazkova and
Izzy Marshall 6-1 at No. 2 to give the Huskies an early advantage, but
Lejla Colic and
Karyna Bihel responded for the Flames with a 6-2 win at No. 1 over Julia Dmitrieva and Jovana Peric.
Georgia Gulin and
Marina Hermanny de Figueiredo put the doubles point in UIC's favor with a 6-3 win at No. 3 over Brodie Walker and Paula Veyhle.
Singles Highlights
Karyna Bihel was back at No. 1, defeating Maria Potsi in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Lejla Colic took a sound win over Jovana Peric at No. 2, 6-0, 6-2, while
Lucie Prochazkova followed in the No. 3 match with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Fernanda Naves to clinch the win for the Flames.
Izzy Marshall took down Brodie Walker in the No. 4 match, 6-2, 3-6, 10-3.
Marina Hermanny de Figueiredo lost a long battle with Paula Veyhle at No. 6, 6-1, 1-6, 10-5.
Georgia Gulin fought back at No. 5 after dropping set one to Christy Robinson, 6-7 (3), to take the next two, 6-2, 10-8.
