MARCH 20 –

On Friday, March 20th, Governor J.B. Pritzker issued Executive Order 2020-10 requiring all Illinoisans to stay in their homes to prevent the further spread of COVID-19. The order prohibits things like visiting the homes of friends and holding gatherings of any size and closes all nonessential establishments, including most retail, recreation and entertainment businesses. It does NOT prohibit essential activities like going to the grocery store, receiving medical care, or taking your pet for a walk. The order takes effect Saturday, March 21st at 5 p.m.

MARCH 16 – 

Guided by its core value of student-athlete well-being and with the further developments in the outbreak of COVID-19, the Horizon League Board of Directors in collaboration with the League's Council, decided that all Horizon League competition, both conference and non-conference, and all Horizon League Championships are canceled for the remainder of the academic year.

Individual institutions will make decisions regarding practice and recruiting in accordance with NCAA regulations, state and institutional guidelines.

The voting members of the Horizon League Board of Directors are comprised of the 10 member institutions' chief executive officers. The Council consists of the 10 member institutions' athletic directors, chairpersons of the Senior Woman's Administrators and Faculty Athletic Representatives and a student-athlete.

MARCH 14 – 

In order to increase precautionary health measures and to free time for UIC instructors to migrate their courses to online platforms, the university will start the spring break Monday, March 16, and extend it to a total period of two weeks. Instruction is scheduled to resume on Monday, March 30.

MARCH 12 – 

UIC has suspended until further notice all athletic competitions and team practices in response to continued global developments surrounding COVID-19 (coronavirus). 

This decision was made in conjunction with continued guidance from the University of Illinois System, university leadership, and NCAA and Horizon League officials, for the health, safety and well-being of student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans.   

All camps, clinics and third-party events scheduled to be hosted at athletics facilities have also been suspended. 
 

The athletics department has also suspended all recruiting travel by its coaches, as well as official and unofficial visits to campus by prospective student-athletes.
