Women’s Tennis Begins Busy Stretch with Bradley & Omaha

Flames begin four matches in a six-day span

CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team (5-2) will begin its busiest stretch of the season this weekend, competing in four matches in a six-day span, three of which are home matches. The Flames begin the stretch this weekend, hosting Bradley (6-4) on Saturday, March 7 at 10 a.m. CT before taking on Omaha (8-3) on Sunday, March 8 at 12 p.m. Both matches will be played at Match Point Tennis & Fitness Club in Griffith, Ind.

UIC picked up a 5-2 road win last Saturday (Feb. 29) in Toledo. The Flames grabbed the doubles point and broke a 2-2 tie with three-straight singles wins at No. 2, No. 6 and No. 5 to defeat the Rockets and pick up their fifth win of the season.

The Flames are 18-18 in singles matches this dual season, led by freshman Izzy Marshall's five wins. Karyna Bihel follows with four wins and Lucie Prochazkova with three. In doubles competition UIC is 11-7, led by Prochzkova and Nell Arendt's 3-0 record.

Bradley has won its last four matches consecutively, most recently defeating Southeast Missouri State 5-2 on Friday, Feb. 28. The Braves are 28-23 so far in singles action, led by Sandra Maletin's perfect 8-0 record at No. 1. In doubles, Bradley is 8-17, with Bozana Lojpur and Nikki Perlwitz taking credit for half of those wins with a 4-3 record at No. 2. The Flames are 5-11 all-time against the Braves after taking a 5-2 win last season on Bradley's turf.

Omaha split a pair of matches last weekend, falling 4-3 to Creighton on Friday before ending the weekend with a 5-2 win over Northern Colorado on Sunday (March 1). The Mavericks own a 38-25 record in singles, led by Savanna Crowell's 7-2 record. In doubles Omaha is 19-10 so far, led by the tandems of Ines Absisan and Madiosn Gallegos as well as Marie Kapelevich and Natalie Lorentz, who have six wins each this season. Sunday's meeting will be the first ever between the two programs.

UIC will wrap up its busy stretch with matches against Northern Illinois (March 11) and Cardinal Stritch (March 13).
